Micro Forest FAQs
What is the ideal land size needed to create a micro forest?
A micro forest is typically about a tennis court size (approx 24m x 11m, total of 260m2) in any shape, but can be smaller depending on land available. We are happy to consider any size parcel of vacant land. This may be next to a warehouse, office or depot space, residential building, school or on public land such as reserves, golf courses and cemeteries.
How are we involved in the creation of a micro forest?
Interested staff or community members can be involved in the design and planning of the forest; a staff or community working group is often formed. It is handy to have a key contact who can assist with scheduling activities such as forest design workshops onsite, nominate potential micro forest locations, facilitate access for trucks to deliver materials, and coordinate planting days with staff and community members.
After the micro forest is created, what maintenance work is required?
About 2 hours once a fortnight for one person to weed. Watering when required depending on conditions (mostly in summer). We recommend an additional annual maintenance of ~1 day that may also include additional planting and mulching.
How long do we need for the project?
From the initial kick-off meeting to planting we allow for approximately 4 - 6 months, depending on the time of year the project starts.
